ASTORIA – The Bel Aire Diner has offered good food and service for decades to the residents of Astoria and Long Island City, but its owners also know it’s important to also pick good deeds off the menu of life.

This past Veterans Day, the owners invited veterans to dine for free from 6 AM to 10 PM. “It is on us,” Archie Dellaportas the diner’s owner, told the Queens Gazette.

All customers needed to do was show their veterans’ ID.

The diner, which is one of the highest rated in New York City, has appeared many times in movies and television shows through the years. The Gazette reported that “honoring the people that have maintained our democracy and kept our nation free is a noble and worthwhile concept. It is because of this sacrifice that Bel Aire believes one day just isn’t enough, and so they have created a new tradition, which they hope other businesses will follow in upholding.”
