Fourteen years ago, My Big, Fat Greek Wedding was released, and became the biggest-grossing romantic comedy and biggest-grossing wedding-themed movie of all time.
And now, it’s sequel, appropriately titled My Big, Fat Greek Wedding 2, is topping social media with its two-and-a-half-minute trailer.
As the Los Angeles Times reports: “Though more than 13 years have passed since the original film, the second installment sees the return of protagonist Toula (Nia Vardalos) and Ian, her non-Greek husband (John Corbett) as they navigate Greek life, their mixed marriage and parenthood.
“Toula’s sharp-tongued Aunt Voula is back, as are her brother Nick (Louis Mandylor) and cousin Angelo (Joey Fatone). Full House alum John Stamos and actress Rita Wilson, who are both of Greek heritage, also are slated to appear in the film. Wilson and husband Tom Hanks’ production company, Playtone Entertainment, is also behind the film.
“‘We gathered the entire family back,’ Vardalos said on the NBC morning show. ‘Everyone in the first movie is back for the second movie. We filmed in the same locations. We have the same producers. We are still a small independent film now being released by the behemoth Universal Pictures. But you know, we are still the same family and we’re really close, and we had a great, great time.'”
