NEW YORK – Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, who represents portions of Staten Island and Brooklyn in the state legislature, received the endorsement of the Staten Island Republican Party in her campaign for the GOP nomination for Mayor.

The endorsement came Thursday evening at the party’s nominating convention at the Hampton Inn on South Avenue in Staten Island. Malliotakis was joined by her parents and many of the people who helped launch her political career 7 years ago, with an upset victory over a two-term incumbent.

The Assemblywomen spoke about the deteriorating quality of life and rising costs of living that have drove out senior citizens, middle class taxpayers and young people.

In her acceptance speech Malliotakis cited the plight of “Countless New Yorkers who are leaving our city to lead a better life; I call them economic refugees. People who are sick and tired of being nickel-and-dimed, specifically by this administration.”

Assemblywoman Malliotakis is a life-long resident of Staten Island and her Greek immigrant father, George and mother, Vera, who fled Castro’s Cuba, sat in the audience.
Nicole Malliotakis said, New York needs a mayor who will respect hardworking taxpayers, support law enforcement, put veterans before illegal immigrants, enforce quality of life laws, and understand that each borough is unique and has its own needs.

Assemblyman Ron Castorina, the Staten Island Republican Chair, said, “I’m proud that the Richmond County Republican Committee unanimously endorsed a strong and effective Staten Island leader to fight for our issues and interests in City Hall.”
