Though thirteen years passed between the iconic My Big Fat Greek Wedding film and its eponymous sequel, the film’s writer and star Nia Vardalos said it felt like six months, Xpose reported.

Vardalos told Now magazine that she felt as if no time had passed, Xpose reported, and felt comfortable and warmly welcomed by the familiar costars, which include John Corbett who plays her on-screen non-Greek husband, Ian Miller, and Michael and Lanie Kazan, who play her parents, Gus and Toula Portokalos.

“The night John Corbett and I walked over to the car parked on the street to do the making-out scene, we looked at each other and said: ‘Weren’t we here six months ago?'” she said, Xpose reported.

But why did it take so long to make the sequel in the first place, considering the smashing success of the original? Vardalos said she wanted to find the right idea, Xpose reported, and it wasn’t until she became a mother herself that she was ready to make it. The sequel focuses on her teenage daughter, Paris, Elena Kampouris, who seeks to go away to college, as Vardalos (Toula) struggles with the thought of her baby leaving the nest.

Although the film released this spring, did not achieve nearly the box office success of its predecessor, the negative reviews came more from film critics – who found it harmless but unoriginal – than the fans. Now available on DVD and Blue Ray, the film may not be the end of the Big Fat series. According to Vardalos, she hasn’t ruled out part three: she just wants to wait to come up with the right idea.
