NEW YORK – The word is out – and will be spread far and wide – about the spectacular inaugural exhibition at the Onassis Cultural Center NY with the theme “Gods and Mortals at Olympus: Ancient Dion, City of Zeus.”

The international and local news media overflowed the lower atrium at the Olympic Tower on March 22 at the press preview for the exhibition that will run from March 24 through June 18 featuring mosaics, sculptures, jewelry, ceramics, coins, glass, and implements dating from the tenth century BC to the fourth century AD.

The exhibition, which displays the findings from a single excavation of the area around the Sanctuary of Zeus in the foothills of Mount Olympus, will offer a unique and moving vista of ancient Greece that reveals the interaction of people, nature and the divine.

The guests at the briefing were greeted by the President of the Onassis Foundation USA , Dr. Antonis Papademetriou, the Center’s Executive Director Amalia Cosmetatou, and the Greek Minister of Culture Aristides Baltas.

The curator of the exhibit, Dr. Dimitrios Pandermalis, President of the Acropolis Museum, Director of Excavations at Dion on Mount Olympus and Professor of Archaeology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, provided an overview before taking the guests on a private tour of the beautifully displayed contents of the exhibition.

It is a multisensory experience as the sculptures glow with a heavenly light and the visitors are immersed in the sounds of nature recorded in Dion.
