NEW YORK – Konstantinos Potamousis, a 62-year-old construction worker fell to his death on February 4 while replacing roof gutters on the six-story building 124 E. 107th Street in Harlem, the New York Times reported.

When emergency workers arrived, he was unconscious and unresponsive, and they pronounced him dead at the scene.

Potamousis lost his balance and fell while grabbing equipment being passed to him by a worker standing near him on scaffolding, sources said, the New York Daily News reported.

A stop-work order was issued by the New York City Buildings Department and authorities said the matter is under investigation, the Times reported. Though there were active permits at the building for renovations of several apartments and common areas, it was unclear whether the work Potamousis was doing was covered by a permit.

An employee at Thiva Contracting Company in Astoria, Potamousis’ employer, said “we are mourning the loss of a very beloved family member,” the Times reported.
