MAY 3-19
ASTORIA – The Greek Cultural Center, 26-80 30th Street in Astoria, presents the contemporary Greek comedy Ftistos O Makaritis by Penny Fylaktaki, directed by Ioanna Katsarou. The play debuted in Thessaloniki and has since toured throughout Greece with great success, and is now in Astoria running Friday and Saturday, 8 PM and Sunday, 5 PM through May 19. MANHATTAN – The opening of the art exhibition titled Mythology, featuring paintings by Andreas Kontellis takes place on Thursday, May 9, 6 PM, at the premises of the Consulate General of Greece in New York, 69 East 79th Street in Manhattan. Curated by Louiza Karapidakis, the exhibition runs from May 9-23, Monday-Friday, 9 AM-2:30 PM. RSVP for the opening by May 6: rsvp.nyc@mfa.gr.

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Kick-off New Jersey’s Greek Festival season at St. George Greek
Orthodox Church, 1101 River Road in Piscataway, at the 46th Annual Greek Festival,
May 16-19. The new hours of operation are: Thursday, May 16, Noon-10 PM; Friday, May 17, Noon – 11 PM; Saturday, May 18, Noon-11:30 PM, and Sunday, Noon-7 PM. Souvlakia, gyros, and Greek pastries are a few of the amenities one can enjoy in our air-conditioned community center. Entertainment includes live music, singers, and six community Greek folk dance groups. The outdoor Taverna, Take-Out Booth, Bakery, and Gift Shops also return. Master Card and Discover Card accepted. PARAMUS, NJ – St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church, 51 Paramus Road in Paramus, holds its annual Greek Festival May 16-19. We invite you to share our world famous cuisine, culture, music, and hospitality. There will be fun for the entire family including cooked and grilled food, desserts and pastries, ouzo, beer. LITTLE ROCK, AR Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1100 Napa Valley Drive in Little Rock holds its 35th Annual Greek Festival May 17-19. The largest ethnic Food Festival in the state of Arkansas, the Greek Festival every year sponsors a number of AR charities and celebrates the diverse cultures of the Little Rock community. It features a scrumptious medley of Greek and Mediterranean menu favorites, including gyros, calamari, pastitsio, sourouta, Greek pizza, and much more. All cuisine can be enjoyed at the Festival or picked up at the Drive Thru. Great activities for children to enjoy throughout the grounds. The Festival also features the popular Old World Market, that includes the famous handmade Baklava along with a wide array of other pastries together with a unique shopping experience that highlights imported gift items from around the world. Entertainment includes the community’s famous Greek dancers along with performances from a wide array of other international entertainment. Admission: $3 or 3 cans of food for food bank. ALBANY, NY – St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Road in Albany, holds its Greek Festival May 17-19. Food shops under the tent serving souvlaki, gyro, Greek salad, loukoumades, spanakopita, and Greek coffee. Greek Pastry Shop featuring homemade pastries. Souvenir and jewelry shops and church tours. Rain or Shine – Indoor accommodations and large tent. Live Greek music by Prometheus Band, dance performances in traditional costumes, and dancing for all. CORONA – The Pancyprian Association of America Cultural Division presents Imprisoned Graves-Fylakismena Mnimata, composed and directed by Phyto Stratis, on Saturday, May 18, 7:30 PM at the Queens Theater in the Park, 14 United Nations Avenue South in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. Held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, the theatrical concert features the gifted actors and soloists of the Pancyprian Choir of NY. MANHATTAN – The Kehila Kedosha Janina synagogue hosts its 5th Annual Greek Jewish Festival at Broome Street between Allen and Eldridge Streets on the Lower East Side of Manhattan on Sunday, May 19, 12-6 PM. The synagogue community along with numerous community partners will celebrate the unique culture and heritage of the Romaniote Jews in New York City. Experience authentic kosher Greek foods and homemade Greek pastries, traditional Greek dancing, live Greek and Sephardic music, an outdoor marketplace full of vendors, arts and educational activities for kids, and much more! JUNE 5
MANHATTAN – New York-based composer and performer Pericles Kanaris returns to his New York residency at Drom with three concerts for the Spring and Summer seasons. The theme for the new performances is “Road to Athens,” as the series will culminate in a concert at the prestigious NOSTOS Summer Festival at the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center in Athens, Greece on June 30th. The upcoming New York show is Wednesday, Jun. 5, 8 PM. Also featured are the musicians Ben Butler (guitars), Richard Hammond (bass), Peter Douskalis (guitars, assistant director), Agapitos Maganaris (bouzouki, vocals), Gary Schreiner (accordion, harmonica), Jamie Eblen (drums/percussion) and Jessie Reagen Mann (cello).
