BOSTON – Two senior metropolitans, Gerasimos of San Francisco and Nathanael of Chicago, issued official announcements regarding the election of Metropolitan Eplidophoros of Bursa as Archbishop of America.
Metropolitan Gerasimos wrote to the clergy and faithful of his Metropolis the following:
“Beloved in the Lord,
Christos Anesti! Christ is Risen!
I wish to announce to you that His Eminence Metropolitan Elpidophoros of Bursa was unanimously elected by the Holy and Sacred Synod in Constantinople on May 11, 2019 as the new Archbishop for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
We pray to our Lord that he will grant him a long and fruitful ministry as our Archbishop, and offer our support and love from the clergy and faithful from the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco for the progress of God’s Church in our country.

Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago in his letter to the clergy and laity of the Metropolis of Chicago wrote:
“My Beloved,

It is with great joy that I announce that His Eminence Metropolitan Elpidophoros of Bursa was elected unanimously by the Holy and Sacred Synod in Constantinople on May 11, 2019 as the new Archbishop for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
I ask all faithful clergy, monastics, and laity of the Metropolis of Chicago to join me in praying that God grant His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America many years of blessed and fruitful ministry.
