BOSTON – Metropolitan Emmanuel of France is no longer among the candidates to become Archbishop of America according to the most recent information received by The National Herald from two sources who wish to maintain their anonymity.

Until recently, Metropolitan Emmanuel was on the list of candidates for the Throne of the Archdiocese of America, along with Metropolitan Elpidophoros of Prousa.

However, Metropolitan Emmanuel himself reportedly has informed Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew that he is not interested in the Archbishopric position in America.

It should be reminded that on February 16, 2019, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, at the end of the Vesper Service at St. George’s Patriarchal Cathedral at the start of the Triodion, announced that after Easter, the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate will proceed to elect the new Primates for the archdioceses of America, Great Britain, and Australia. The next meeting of the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate is scheduled to convene from Thursday, May 9 to May 11.

It should be noted here that it is possible Patriarch Bartholomew might change his decision, as he has often done recently.
