BROOKLINE, MA – Greek Music Education Program is being presented by Boston Lykeion Ellinidon and the Malitiotis Cultural Center with six master classes March 3-April 14. BOSTON – The 25th Annual Greek Independence Day Parade of Boston takes place on Sunday, Apr. 7, 1 PM from Boylston Street to Charles Street. Music, dancing and food immediately following the parade in Boston Common. The Grand Marshals will be His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios of Boston and the Honorable Mayor of Boston Martin Walsh. PHILADELPHIA – The Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley holds its 2019 Greek Independence Parade – The Pontian Genocide 100 Year Commemoration on Sunday, Apr. 7, at the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. This year’s honorees are: Eleftheria Recipient & Grand Marshal: Dr. Konstantinos Koutras, Consul General of Greece in New York. Honorary Marshals: Kyriakos Mossaides and the Pontian Society Akritai. HOLMDEL, NJ – The Hellenic Dancers of New Jersey (HDNJ) present Journey through the Aegean for their 47th Anniversary Performance, Sunday, Apr. 7, at Holmdel High School, 36 Crawfords Corner Road in Holmdel. Beginning at 3 PM, attendees will enjoy a two-part performance and fashion show by the HDNJ highlighting the traditional folk dances of the Aegean Islands; refreshments will be available for purchase during intermission. All proceeds from the event will support HDNJ in its mission of preserving Greek folk-dance customs, and perpetuating Greek heritage in America. Funding from the event will also support the dance troupe’s 2019 touring schedule. Tickets are $25. Students and Seniors can save $5 by reserving their tickets by April 6th. All tickets are $25 at the door; children age 6 and under are free. ASTORIA – A Musical Journey to Rebetiko fundraising concert for the Hellenic Relief Foundation features vocalists Grigoris Maninakis, Aggeliki Psonis, Elena Toumaras, and choir, and musicians Kostas Psarros (bouzouki), Glafkos Kontemeniotis, (piano), Megan Gould (violin) Yiannis Politis (guitar), and Richard Khuzami (percussion). MANHATTAN – Zoltán Mága, violinist and crossover artist, is returning to the United States from Hungary with the Budapest Gypsy Virtuosi to sweep audiences off their feet at Carnegie Hall on Thursday, Apr. 11, 8 PM, with special guests Greek tenor Mario Frangoulis, violinist Shlomo Mintz and singer Sheléa. FLUSHING, NY – The Federation of Cypriot American Organizations holds its annual National Convention on Saturday, Apr. 13, 8:30 AM-4 PM at Terrace on the Park, 52-11 111th Street in Flushing. The Keynote Speaker of this year’s convention will be Photis Photiou, Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Overseas Cypriots. Photiou will be speaking on the role of the Cyprus Government in supporting the mission of the diaspora in the U.S., its expectations as well as its vision for the Overseas Cypriots and its implementation towards it. MANHATTAN – Renowned Greek author Ersi Sotiropoulos will sign and discuss her book inspired by the poet C.P. The event takes place in the Rare Book Room as Sotiropoulos discusses her acclaimed work with Sam Sacks of the Wall Street Journal’s Fiction Chronicle. MANHATTAN – New York-based composer and performer Pericles Kanaris returns to his New York residency at Drom with three concerts for the Spring and Summer seasons. The theme for the new performances is “Road to Athens,” as the series will culminate in a concert at the prestigious NOSTOS Summer Festival at the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center in Athens, Greece on June 30th. The upcoming New York shows are Wednesday, May 1 and Jun. 5, both at 8 PM. Also featured are the musicians Ben Butler (guitars), Richard Hammond (bass), Peter Douskalis (guitars, assistant director), Agapitos Maganaris (bouzouki, vocals), Gary Schreiner (accordion, harmonica), Jamie Eblen (drums/percussion) and Jessie Reagen Mann (cello).
