BOSTON, MA – The last act of the melodrama of the rise and the fall of a prominent Greek-American family in Massachusetts is underway, with the sale of their beach estate in West Yarmouth, Cape Cod.
Christy and Andrea Mihos are selling it as part of their divorce agreement. The asking price for the estate is $13,999,000, according to a recent Boston Globe report. The Globe reported that the estate was built in 1995 and the builder had harvested the wood from Mount Saint Helens in the Pacific Northwest.
The Mihos family purchased the beachfront estate overlooking Hyannis Harbor in 1998. The 3.82-acre property has a deepwater slip and the protection of Uncle Robert’s Cove.
The ocean is visible from every room in the home, particularly through the large bay windows in the living room, which has a magnificent stone fireplace.
The best view, however, may be from a bedroom in a section of the house that mimics a lighthouse. Convenience store magnate Christy Mihos was once the owner of more than 150 stores of “Christy’s Market” located mostly on Cape Cod and in Southern Massachusetts.
The first store was open by his father, in Brockton. Mihos, 66, twice ran for Massachusetts Governor unsuccessfully, in 2006 as an independent and in 2010 as a Republican.
Though had achieved the pinnacle of success professionally, financially, and socially, he was accused for domestic violence against his wife.
Andrea accused her then-husband of assaulting her and knocking her to the ground at their West Yarmouth home in July, 2011. Their daughter reportedly witnessed the incident and was prepared to testify against her father.
Andrea’s attorneys say he squandered an astounding $25 million since selling his convenience store empire in 2009, some on politics, and a lot on prostitutes.
Christy Mihos was born in Brockton, which became home for thousands of Greek immigrants at the beginning of the 20th century. His life centered on the local Greek Orthodox parish of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary.
He was a student of the Greek Afternoon School, and also an altar boy, Sunday School student, choir member, and a member of GOYA. From childhood, Mihos’ father encouraged him to play the guitar, clarinet, saxophone, bouzouki, and guitar.
He started the Olympians orchestra, and played for many years with the Fantasy orchestra in Boston. He was an excellent clarinet player.While preparing to go to college, he went to a Trio Belcanto concert, at the time the most renowned Greek band in the United States.
His father bought him band member Michalis Mattheos’ bouzouki. From that point on, Mihos played the bouzouki day and night.
From age 4, Christy worked in his father’s Brockton store, putting eggs in boxes, separating bottles, and disposing the garbage. He made his first visit to Greece in a really unique way: at age 10, he wrote an exceptional essay about the Battle of Marathon and won a trip to Greece, all expenses paid.
