NEW YORK – New York State Senator Michael Gianaris joined two members of Seattle’s City Council for a meeting at the Retail, Wholesale, and Distribution Workers Union (RWDSU) headquarters in Manhattan on January 7. Seattle Council Members in attendance were Lisa Herbold and Teresa Mosqueda. Also in attendance were New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson, Comptroller Scott Stringer, Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum, and other local and state elected officials and organizers.

“Amazon’s HQ2 debacle is not a done deal no matter how much they want you to believe it is,” said Senator Gianaris. “I was pleased to meet with Council Members Lisa Herbold and Teresa Mosqueda to learn about the problems Seattle has faced by hosting Amazon there.”

Senator Gianaris has led the fight against Amazon’s Long Island City deal, introducing legislation to ban insider trading in real estate and non-disclosure agreements in economic development deals.

The Chair of the Democratic Conference, Sen. Gianaris represents New York State Senate District 12, western Queens. A child of immigrant parents, Senator Gianaris was born and raised in Astoria, Queens, where he continues to reside. He is the product of New York City public schools and graduated from Fordham University and Harvard Law School before setting his sights on a career in public service.
