SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Salt Lake City has been in existence since 1905 and lists about 700 Greek families, Father George Nikas told The National Herald.
“We are trying to keep Hellenism alive. A decade ago there were 1,200 families in this parish,” he said.
The community organized many Christmas events. Among them is the well-established Greek School celebration, with 80 children, as well as a Christmas concert from the choirs of the church.
The members of the Philoptochos made homemade festive sweets which will be available for sale at the parish on Christmas Day.
The community also had a “Sub for Santa Angel Tree,” which Fr. Nikas explained to TNH, There are cards attached to the branches, each person selects a card which might say, ‘sweatshirt’ or ‘a pair of shoes.’ Everyone buys everything they can and gives them to the Philoptochos. From there, they go to families in need.”
As every year, the Philoptochos also organizes a “Fashion Show” and a dinner at a hotel in the area with all ages participating.
