SOUTHAMPTON, NY – In America, where they are an integral part of life, elections have a physical aspect – people vote with their hands on election day, with their feet by choosing to attend this event or that, with their palates in deciding what they eat – and a virtual dimension where people vote on all kinds of things on the internet.
Each year, the Martha Stewart American Made Competition spotlights small-business owners, local artisans and creative entrepreneurs who embody the spirit of “American Made,” and through October 21 the community can shine a spotlight on the creations of one of its own, Anastasia Karloutsos, by voting online.
Anastasia’s company, Old School Favorites, a small Southampton-based artisanal food company that specializes in all-natural chocolate “Szauce” and maple-glazed “Nutsz,” was recently selected as a finalist in the Martha Stewart American Made National Competition.
Voting began on September 21 and the winner will be announced on October 23.

Passionate foodies can vote six times per day at one sitting – without it costing any calories.
When Hellenes come to America they don’t only enrich its culture by bringing recipes. A whole tradition of culinary excellence and experimentation was passed down through the generation to Anastasia, most recently through a line of presbyteres – she herself is married to Fr. Constantine Lazarakis, presbyter, of the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church of the Hamptons, and she doubtless learned much from her mother, who is also a presbytera.
A number of factors are used by the judges to evaluate and determine the group of finalists, including originality, customer service, quality, visual appeal and engagement of community, and the last phase of the process is in the hands of the general public.
Founded in 2013 on the East End of Long Island, Old School Favorites is a family-owned business that sources organic, locally grown ingredients for its all-natural dessert products, and does not use any preservatives, additives or artificial ingredients. Its signature chocolate “Szauce” has been featured in Hamptons Magazine, PureWow,WellWed New York, and Modern Luxury, among many other publications.
As an active member of the Long Island community, Old School Favorites participates in numerous Farmer’s Markets and Flea Markets, and works closely with other small businesses and local charities to give back to the community.
