Madeline Singas, Acting Nassau County District Attorney, defeated Michael Scotto, a former Manhattan prosecutor from Port Washington, in a landslide in the Democratic primary on September.
She won the most-watched race in Long Island by a three to one margin and will now face Republican Kate Murray, Hempstead Town Supervisor, in the general election on November 3.
Nassau County Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs introduced Singas at the election night gathering at Louie’s Oyster bar & Grill in Port Washington.
“Tonight, we took a huge step towards making sure Nassau continues to be one of the safest counties in America,” Singas said.
She thanked her “campaign team which, is the best in the business, and most of all the volunteers…I wouldn’t be standing here without you and I will need you in November. I cannot do this alone.”
Earlier in the day Singas told TNH about the importance of the support of the Greek-American community and expressed her deep appreciation.
After the primary victory declaration the focus of the campaign immediately shifted to the general election and Republican candidate Kate Murray. Jacobs told the crowd “Nassau County needs a professional prosecutor and not a professional politician,” in the DA’s office.
Murray, whose general experience practicing law is limited, has never been a prosecutor.
