CHICAGO – On March 23, in observance of Greek Independence Day, March 25th, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) President Mariyana T. Spyropoulos presented to the Consul General of Greece in Chicago, Mrs. Polyxeni Petropoulou, a resolution which honors and commends the bravery of Greece’s ancestors and their fight for freedom.
“This year marks the 197th anniversary of the Greek revolution where the phrase Freedom or Death was cried out by our brave ancestors at Agia Lavra. It is important that we remember all those who fought and sacrificed their lives for freedom. We celebrate and commemorate this day here at the agency by giving our employees a little taste of Greek culture,” said President Spyropoulos.
The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District is an award-winning special purpose government agency responsible for wastewater treatment and stormwater management. MWRD’s mission is to protect the health and safety of the public, the quality of the water supply source (Lake Michigan), and protect businesses and homes from flood damages.
