The Stavros Niarchos Foundation signed a memorandum of collaboration with the Greek state on Wednesday, March 20 to provide upgrading and support of the health sector in Greece.
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras signed the agreement for the Greek state.
According to an announcement, the signing of the Memorandum will initiate a program of major donations in the health sector in Greece, with a budget expected to exceed 200 million euros.
In September 2017, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation announced its intention to fund entirely four major infrastructure projects across the country, the procurement of new medical technology equipment and educational actions, following discussions with the Health Ministry, which proposed the most urgent needs of the health sector.

“Today is a very important day for all the citizens of the country,” Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said on Wednesday on the occasion of signing the memorandum of collaboration between the Greek state and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
“On behalf of the Greek people, I want to thank the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and [SNF Co-President] Andreas Dracopoulos for this offer, which may total 250 million euros,” said Tsipras.
On his part, Dracopoulos underlined that SNF has achieved excellent cooperation in a climate of transparency and common vision between the public and private sectors, and said the donation to the health sector will have a positive outcome despite the difficulties. The SNF’s hard work, he said, will continue to contribute to a better tomorrow.
Greek president: Niarchos Fdn gift supports Greece’s social state
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation’s (SNF) planned donation to the Greek health sector will help support a sufferinsocial state, Greek President Prokopios Pavlopoulos said on Wednesday.
The president met with SNF board president Andreas Drakopoulos and senior advisor Vassilis Kaskarelis at the Presidential Mansion prior to the signing of an agreement between the foundation and the Greek state.
Among the numerous and very important donations, Pavlopoulos said, he wanted to highlight SNF’s “because under the current historical conditions it is a gift that concerns the support of the social state in Greece. As the social state in Greece is suffering, by supporting it the foundation supports social cohesion.”
He also said the foundation continued a Greek tradition of national benefactors, who are responsible for creating many of the modern Greek state’s services and institutions.
