NEW YORK – As the United States was celebrating its bicentennial in 1976, Maestro Dr. Dino Anagnost was beginning a new tradition. In the presence of His Eminence Archbishop Iakovos of America, The Holy Trinity Archdiocesan Cathedral Choir performed an inaugural Christmas concert featuring the best of liturgical music. This year, the Cathedral Choir continues this legacy with concert on Friday, December 16 at 7:30PM for His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Geron of America as well as hundreds of attendees in the congregation.

As a special dedication to the 40th anniversary, the Cathedral Choir, conducted by Maestro Evey Simon, will reprise selections of music from the original performance in 1976. The Cathedral Choir will also perform Christmas favorites by classical composers Brahms and Berlioz, and more.

“It is an honor to continue this legacy of musical excellence,” said Simon. “Due to the historic nature of this performance, we have carefully chosen the music we want to share knowing that we will be in the presence of His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios and that we are celebrating one of the most beautiful holidays of the year.”

Tickets are still available, and can be purchased at thecathedralnyc.org or by calling 212-288-3215. This year’s concert is expected to draw a large audience.

Maestro Anagnost passed away in 2011, but his legacy of excellence continues with the Cathedral Choir. Performing the liturgy each week, the Cathedral Choir also performs concert throughout the year bringing the beauty of Orthodox Christian spirit and music to an even wider audience. The Holy Trinity Archdiocesan Cathedral is located at 337 East 74th Street, New York. Established in 1891, the present location opened in 1932 with its cornerstone laid by then-governor of New York’s wife Eleanor Roosevelt. The Cathedral performs the Divine Liturgy every Sunday at 10AM. More information on the parish calendar is available online at www.thecathedral.goarch.org.
