Police say Gus Kiriazis, 59, owner of a mall jewelry store in Coral Springs, Florida, shot and wounded a worker before killing himself.
The incident happened the morning of Nov. 26, police said, at the Coral Square Mall about 20 miles north of Florida, which was put on lockdown for an hour, bewildering holiday shoppers.
Kiriazis, who operated the Fast-Fix Jewelry and Watch Repair, shot Sabas Antonio Ferrer, 52, “several times” and then turned the gun on himself, Detective Ernesto Bruna told The New York Post.
The motive wasn’t reported. Kiriazis died at the scene from the self-inflicted gunshot wound. Ferrer, 52, was brought to Broward Health North hospital in critical condition, according to a report.
Cops were evacuating the shopping mall when Stephanie Speno, 33, was walking out of Macy’s and saw two women on their cell phones crying, according to Local 10 News.
Speno, a native of Auburn, N.Y., who lives in Orlando, was visiting family for Thanksgiving.
“We are in the middle of a terrorist event here in coral square! [sic] Wtf has America become?!? To be a part of an event like this is so scary!” Speno posted to Facebook.
